The Wild Woods (Av. "Mirikyâtaurîr") were the great woodlands covering much of eastern Middle-earth in the elder days.
After the Battle of Palisor much of Central Middle-earth turned into steppe and wastelands, known as the Last Desert, but a few remnants of the Wild Woods remained, especially in the north where they formed the Great Northern Woods, Illuin Wood, and Forest of Dír, but also in Palisor a few small forested areas remained in Lygar Kraw, Ûster Kryl, Rycolis, and Daldunair.
