Taur Iaur in-Enyd

Taur Iaur in-Enyd (S. "Old Forest of the Ents", Q. "Taure Yrya Onotalieo", Os. "Taur Or Unudon") was anciently, the home of the Shepherds of the Trees, who fell upon the murderous host of Nogrod in the First Age, under the rule of Leaflock. Though this forest was the largest centre of Entish habitation, that people lived on either side of the Blue Mountains. They did not remain here, but departed in the Second Age (S.A. 1760), gathering in Fangorn, far to the east, motivated to flee by the depredations of Sauron in Eriador.

Many sleeping trees and Huorns remained here, where the more sentient were allies of the Elves. The Elves hereabouts did not cut trees, but gather dead wood or keep their gathering to less thoughtful woods south and west.
