We were at a loss to account for how the contemporary form Lebinnevet might mean "the end of Lebennin" until we consulted with Master Parvhael of the Sindarin Academy at Pelargir, who informed us that the name resulted from an unhappy marriage of the Quenya suffix -met "end" to the Sindarin form "Lebennin", with the Quenya ending then submitted to the usual Sindarin consonantal mutation in such a position, becoming "-vet". Master Parvhael's distress over this name nearly equaled our own, and His Majesty's son, the Lord of Pelargir, has promised to take under advisement our suggestion that "Lebinnevet" be officially changed to the proper Sindarin form, "Methed Lebennin". -Findegil of Gondor

Methed Lebennin was the point of land that formed the eastern shore of the Glinduin-Serni estuary. The cape of Lebennin swelled between the two bays forming the mouths of the Anduin and the Gilrain (Glinduin). The rocky headland was appointed with a strong tower at the end of "Lebinnevet" garrisoned under the authority of the Cáno of Fanuilond. It provided the last chance for Gondor to receive warning of a sea-raid on Linhir or up the Anduin. The tower was destroyed and rebuilt many times during the Third Age, bearing the brunt of Corsair raids against Linhir and Fanuilond. In T.A. 2050 it became the seat of a local lord, and remained a feudal estate until T.A. 3019 when its last lord was slain in the massive Corsair attack upon the coastlands during the War of the Ring. Methed Lebennin also gave the southwestern district of the province its name.
