Course of the old North-South Road

The North-South Road was an ancient númenórean road-system which evolved in the Second Age as an extension of the old Dwarven Road that connected Moria and Eregion with the Great East Road. The North-South Road began at Fornost Erain, where it was known as the Greenway and continued to Tharbad, where it became known as the Old South Road and led through Dunland to the Fords of Isen, from where it became the Great West Road, running beneath the northern foothills of the Ered Nimrais and though Rohan to Minas Tirith and Osgiliath from where it became the South Road, leading to Pelargir and Ethir Anduin. From Osgiliath a side-road called Men Ithil led through Ithilien, evolving into the Harad Road which led to Near-Harad and Umbar eventually crossing the Great Desert and leading to Far Harad.
