Linduin

Linduin (Lower Gelion) Vale

The River Linduin (S. "Song-river", Q. "Lindêsír") in Forlindon was a river that arose in the reshaping of the world after the First Age. It was the greatest course of water west of the Ered Luin. The Linduin rose in the Blue Mountains, flew through Thargelion and rushed to meet the Gulf of Lhûn in the port of Forlond. The Elves claimed that the Linduin had once been River Gelion of Ossiriand, its course having changed during the Great Battle. If so, it was a pale shadow of what it had once been during the First Age. Due to this the name sometimes was also used to refer to the Gelion.

Linduin or Lower Gelion (S. Gelion = "Joyous") in the Second and Third Age was only fragment of its former length; the river was neither as deep nor as swift as it had once been in the First Age. In the Third Age it stretched some 205 miles. The tutelary spirit of the Gelion, Tinfang Gelion, was a piper, akin to GoldberryBombadil's wife, but the loss of the lower river had its effect on his fana; for he walked only with aid of a crutch and did not dance to his tunes.
