Notes[]

The Iron forest was briefly mentioned in writings published in the History of Middle-Earth, Christopher Tolkien speculated that it was a precursor of later Mirkwood.Though in the cited text the Forest is mentioned as Sauron's refuge, it's location is at or near the "center of the world", which is nowhere near later Mirkwood, also "ironwood" is applied to a number of woods or plants, but usually tropical ones.

Boromir: "Is it not a strange fate that we should suffer so much fear and doubt for so small a thing? So small a thing!"
