Aros (S. "Red Foam") was the southern river of Doriath in Beleriand. It arose in the eastern end of the mountains of Ered Gorgoroth, was joined by river Celon near the southeast corner of Doriath, and flowed into river Sirion at Aelin-uial. Aros formed the larger part of the eastern and southern borders of Doriath (the Girdle of Melian). The ancient east-west road across Beleriand crossed Aros at Arossiach (S. "Aros’-ford").
