Adornas was a western outpost of Rohan and market-town on the river Adorn in the Westmarch.
Etymology[]
Though Sindarin in form, the name Adornas is based on the name of the river Adorn, itself of unknown origin. Tolkien states that the name Adorn is “of a form suitable to Sindarin but it is not interpretable. It must be supposed to be of pre-Númenórean origin adapted to Sindarin”
